Toronto (1) @ (5) Philly............. The Leafs scored the game's first goal on the powerplay midway through the first, but with two goals in the first and third as well as a single in the second the Flyers cruised to a lop-sided win. The Flyers however need to re-assess their defensive play as they gave up 39 shots with Marty Biron having a great game. The Flyers did score four powerplay goals on eight chances. Jeff Carter of the Flyers led the scoring in the game with (1-2-3pts).
Chicago (3) @ (4) Nashville....... Martin Erat's (2-1-3) second goal of the game with four and a half minutes remaining in third was the difference as the Preds survived a two goal second period by the Hawks. Also counting prominantly in Nashvile's scoring were Jordan Staal (2 assists) and Vaclav Prospal (1-1-2). Mikko Koivu of the Blackhawks matched Erat point for point as he had a pair of goals and an assist, with Gregory Campbell adding a pair of helpers. Cristobal Huet won his first start in the Preds net stopping 23 of 26 shots.
Anaheim (1) @ (2) Vancouver (O.T)..... Canuck's Alex Burrows and Brenden Morrow of the Ducks exchanged first period powerplay goals and that was the extent of the scoring for regulation. However it took Vancouver just four seconds to get the decisive goal in O.T as Marc Savard would tip home a Martin Havlat wrister from atop the right face of circle. Mike Smith won his 8th start for Vancouver turning aside 21 of 22 shots in this great goaltender battle. Marc Savard added an assist on Burrows' first period goal to factor in all Canuck scoring.
Los Angeles (4) @ (2) Calgary.... The Kings scored four straight goals and were well ahead of the Flames just 2:37 into the second period. Coach Terry Murray called a time out for the Flames at that point and verbally tore into his team for twenty-nine and a half seconds of that time out. When play resumed Calgary played a much more inspired game and two goals in a three minute span cut the deficeit in half, but in the third both teams played much more defensive which led to a scoreless period and ended the Flames chances of a comeback. Zbynek Michalek tallied three assists and Jamie Langenbrunner scored twice for LA.
Buffalo (5) @ (4) Tampa Bay..... Buffalo scored singles in the first and third periods of tonight's match but it was their second period three goal out-burst that would be the difference. Andy MacDonald's first hat-trick of the season (also one assist) was the difference, Patrick Kane would score once and add a pair of helpers also for the Sabres. Vincent Lecavalier scored a pair of goals in a losing cause for the Lightning. A surprising side bar in this game was back up Josh Harding won his second game of the season for Buffalo stopping 19 of 23 'Bolts shots. After starting the season 9-1 in first 10 games the Lightning have now lost three in a row.
New Jersey (1) @ (2) Florida (S.O)..... Travis Zajac staked the Devils to an early 1-0 lead in the first but just ten and a half minutes later Kamil Kreps picked up a loose puck in the slot after a face-off and wired a shot over Marty Brodeur's right shoulder, surprising the screened goalie. No further scoring in regulation OR overtime led to the shoot-out where Slava Kozlov deked out Marty with a forehand-backhand- forehand move to put the Panthers up a goal and when Travis Zajac had the puck skip over his stick and go wide of the net it gave Florida the win. Back up Andrew Raycroft won his first start of the season for the Panthers.
